Meet the Team

Matt Ayer

Matt is a recently retired Senior Engineer and Founder of AYER. Matt was previously a registered Professional Engineer licensed in Ohio. Matt has extensive environmental compliance experience, including thirty years as a consultant and six years in the industry. His areas of expertise include complex air permitting projects, hazardous waste management, and auditing environmental programs. He has worked for clients all over the country including Ohio, Texas, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, and Louisiana. Matt plans to visit his grandchildren and work on projects of special interest in retirement.

Matt lives in Mariemont with his wife, Paula, and his social dog, Cookie. He is a savvy, experienced homebrewer who enjoys making “clones” of friends’ favorite beers. Matt is passionate about community affairs in the village of Mariemont. In particular, Matt enjoys volunteering at Mariemont Community Church and promoting the Murray Path project.

Joe Hollowell, PE

Joe is a Senior Engineer who is one of the original owners of AYER. He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensed in Ohio, South Carolina, and New York. In his work with AYER, Joe has completed projects for clients all over the country including Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, New York, Massachusetts, Kentucky, and Indiana.

Joe performs air dispersion modeling for demonstrating compliance with National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and toxic air contaminants standards, conducts environmental program audits, prepares Management of Change (MOC) reviews to assess environmental regulatory applicability for new projects, and interacts with state agencies on behalf of clients. He is experienced in a wide range of environmental programs, including air, waste, water, stormwater, spill prevention, EPCRA (Toxic Release Inventory and Tier II). Joe has expertise in preparing engineering calculations, air dispersion modeling, preparing detailed environmental permit applications, and thinking outside the box when it comes to permitting. He relishes opportunities to work with new and existing clients on challenging projects with complicated permitting approaches.

Joe lives in Indiana but also spends time in Chicago visiting his sister, niece, and nephew; and in Orlando visiting his parents. Joe is a diehard Cincinnati Reds fan and tries to attend at least 30 games per year. Every year since 2003, Joe and his cousins have visited different baseball stadiums and attended baseball-related events around the country.

Alexis Von Holle

Alexis Von Holle

Alexis is a Project Engineer who has worked with AYER since 2020. She is actively studying for the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam. Alexis has served clients in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, New York, and Colorado.

Alexis prepares compliance reports, assists in audits of environmental programs, interacts with state agencies on behalf of clients, and assists in ensuring safety compliance for clients. She is experienced in a range of environmental programs, including air, stormwater, spill prevention, waste, Toxic Release Inventory, and Tier II. Alexis has experience in preparing engineering calculations and optimizing EH&S programs.

Alexis recently purchased a home on the west side of Cincinnati and lives with her 150 pound English Mastiff dog, Juniper. She often spends time hanging out with her 6 sisters. Alexis is also an avid live music attendee, often searching for small-town bands as well as large music festivals across the country.

Kelly Rankin

Kelly Rankin

Kelly is a University of Cincinnati alumni and has worked as the accountant for Ayer Quality Engineering since 2016.

She handles all aspects of the accounting functions as well as being the coordinator for the purchasing relationship between the Client and the Engineers.

Kelly also serves as the Vice Mayor for the Village of Mariemont. She is a fitness enthusiast and loves to run. She shares her home with her husband Gordon and their goofy dog Barley.

Carysanne North

Carysanne North

Carysanne is a Project Chemical Engineer in her first year with AYER. She is actively studying for the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam.

Prior to joining AYER, Carysanne supported process optimization projects in the chemicals, automotive, and personal care industries. She is experienced in preparing engineering calculations, analyzing production data, and developing effective EHS programs.

Carysanne prepares compliance reports, supports EHS program improvements, and assists in ensuring safety and environmental compliance for clients.

Carysanne recently moved to Northern Kentucky with her wife, Sam, and their three cats. They spend most of their weekends in the Red River Gorge, rock climbing and volunteering with conservation groups. Carysanne also enjoys highly competitive board game nights with her family.

Katie King

Katie King

Katie is a Project Engineer in her first year with AYER. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with her degree in Environmental Engineering. She is actively studying for her Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam.

Katie assists clients in environmental compliance, prepares compliance reports and supports EHS program advancements.

Katie lives in Cincinnati near Over the Rhine with her roommate, Molly, and dog, Ozzy. She spends her free time cooking, reading at a local park, or cheering on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
